Furnace & Straight AC
Furnaces generally produce significantly more BTUs than heat pumps in heating mode. If you're someone who feels the cold acutely and appreciates low humidity with rapid heating, a furnace may be the perfect solution for you.
BTU, or British Thermal Unit, is a measure of heat energy. It was originally defined as the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit.
In terms of cooling, both furnaces and heat pumps function similarly by extracting heat from your home, storing it in the refrigerant, and expelling it outside. However, when it comes to heating, a heat pump reverses the flow of refrigerant to add warmth to your home, while a furnace uses gas to ignite a flame, producing between 60,000 to 125,000 BTUs of heat.
Using a furnace can lead to lower power bills during winter, and your outdoor condenser will remain idle, conserving its efficiency through the colder months.
